Dracaena Dragon Trees
These ancient trees require warm weather and grow over 40 feet high. A crimson red resin comes from the leaves and bark and is used by locals to cure stomach ailments, freshen breath, decorate pottery and houses and even as lipstick.
The first photograph is a group of Dracaena Cinnabari taken from the Diksam plains of Socotra. The second photograph is the Dracaena Draco in Icod de los Vinos.
*Check out the guy walking next to the Draco. That tree's huge!

the pyramid was very responsible
Check out this fantastic animation from music/design duo, Impactist. Their other work (music, photos) is really great, but Leo's Song is definitely a gem.

Sou'wester
A sou'wester is a hat made of flexible waterproof materials worn to repel water, often with a neckstrap to keep it from flying off in strong winds. It was traditionally worn by sailors off the North Atlantic coast of the U.S. and Canada, and is distinguished by a wide brim that becomes especially long in the back for the purpose of protecting the neck from the elements.
Available here. Or here.

The Red Balloon
Albert Lamorisse's 1956 masterpiece of a short film, The Red Balloon, has recently been remastered and re-released. Relive this truly magical and lovable film, as it appears with in conjunction with Lamorisse's 1952 film, The White Mane.
While you're at it, take note of Pascal's get-up: tapered sweats and a sports coat. Inspiration abound in this one.

Adenium Obesum
Often called the "Desert Rose" or "Sabi Star", the Adenium Obesum behaves like a semi-deciduous in colder climates and a succulent shrub in warmer climates, growing up to 10 feet tall in height and 6 feet in trunk diameter. They're a great houseplant, even for beginners, as they need little care as long as they get plenty of sun. This exact variety is from Socotra.

Bryan Schutmaat
Houston-based photographer Bryan Schutmaat is something to behold. Perhaps to note his Eggleston-isms or Shore-isms is trite and limiting. And it is because something else is going on here. A softness and emotional fervor that's absolutely breathtaking. Too many wonderful photos to just pick one. See for yourself.
Check out Bryan's Flickr Page.

H&M S/S 2008
Perhaps a bit too early to tell, but H&M's S/S 08 white-trench-coat-gone-wind-breaker seems like it's got a good thing going for it. At $70, what better way to protect yourself from the rain while looking angelic. In stores January/February.

Appaloosa
The record is supposed to drop in April of 2008. In the meantime, begin clicking your heels together for something in the way of a Nico armed with a Casio keyboard—all packaged under the name Appaloosa (Anne Laure & Max Krefeld). Being touted by Chan Marshall as one of her favorite new things, it won't be long before word is out. And as she said herself, it will be time for them to "...RUN !!!!!!"
